Our 2 March shows were super fun! Thank you Matt Fink (Brush Apes) and Jacob Doss (from the Mirkwood an Arlington, WA venue) for inviting us to play and THANK YOU to the crazy north side freaks who partied with us March 21st!

We’ve also added another gig with ATROCITY GIRL mid April in Seattle!

December 1st, 2024:

Sorry, folks, I’ve been slacking off. I can’t believe that this year is almost over. Having taken 5+ years to complete the task of making a vinyl record, I wanted some time to bask and relax –but I really should be pushing the word out there that the LP exists and MOVING some more UNITS! I just think its a good time to hunker down in the studio, post crazy election and mid-winter. We still have about 2 of the 3 hundred to sell, but we have only played a couple shows since the album came out back in June.

We really just did 4 shows this year:
4-13-24: LOS NOMADS, SKIZ DIZZARD, SMEDLEY’S RACKET at LUCKY DIME, Everett
6-22-24: BRUSHSTOMP HOOTENANNY #3
7-4-24: 4th of July album release and pyro-party in Darrington
7-25-24: opening for HICKOIDS at the shakedown in Bellingham

Which was mellow and kind of nice, but kind of lacking–but we did get that dang rekkid finished, mastered, manufactured and released. I also sat in with a few bands playing sax (shout out to THE SOMETHIN AINT RIGHTS, THE MOON IS FLAT and AR BAND for that!). So, we will for sure be aiming to play more shows starting in the spring; we gotta sell some vinyl!

Some things have happened since my last post. Sadly, Janalee Swain decided to back out of playing with us simply due to time constraints. We are all still friends and she may appear on some recording or jam with us occasionally, but she can’t commit to being a full-blown member. Its a real shame since she is so talented and is not in any bands. We’re gonna try to record with her if for no other reason than to document such a talented player who is otherwise not available to experience anywhere.

In happier news, and shout out to Ben Rew who signed us, we are now on the label, DEAD TEENAGER RECORDS, home of such bands as ZEKE, SPEEDEALER, CAMAROSMITH and PUKESNAKE among others, which has digital distribution via SONY/ORCHARD! Victory Or Deaf will be on all streaming platforms worldwide starting on DECEMBER 20TH, 2024 so please help us spread the word. I’ll provide links as soon as I can.

I recently ran across a sweet deal on a used, funky, light blue/green Giannini “Craviola” shaped electric guitar which sounds and plays great. I can’t wait to strut around a stage with it. See pic. Meanwhile, Isaac got a similarly colored Fender bass. Neither of us knew the other was buying gear but apparently we have not only upgraded our gear, but they have similar colors, lol.

Additionally, Juan and I set the rehearsal space up to start recording again. I have been reaching out to some friends to see if they’d like to collaborate, and I’ve gotten several yesses. We shall see what actually manifests in that regard. But that’s the plan for the next few months, record more Smedley’s Racket stuff and try to also make some cool collabs happen. Then later in the month we are honored and excited to be playing with old friends the HICKOIDS on their 40th anniversary tour as they swing through the pacific northwest at the THE SHAKEDOWN in Bellingham, WA.

Super exciting Smedley’s Racket news:

I can now unveil that we’ve been rehearsing with a wicked ass keyboard player named Janalee Swain. We are honored to have someone of her caliber joining our ranks. She’s killer, having played piano since age 4!! 😎
We are planning to debut this incarnation at the Brushstomp Hootenanny Fest #3 –where allegedly we will also have our new 12 inch vinyl rekkids available cuz I’m supposed to get em just a few days before that!! Woot!! Also also, the 3rd video from VICTORY OR DEAF will be released Saturday morning over on the MAXBRODYWORLD TV channel over ‘ere on the toob of uuuuuuuu.

We’re keeping our fingers crossed, but I’d like to go ahead and announce that its looking good for the BRUSHSTOMP HOOTENANNY to be our record release party, June 21st and 22nd out in Granite Falls, WA! Also, the online digital version of it WILL be available on JULY 4th in honor of our hero Smedley Butler. I’m still trying to figure out how we will be able to sell these records online, and I’m not doing some pre-sale thing. Hey everyone, its 4-20-2024 which is the same forwards as backwards!! …and OMG. I’m already smoking a bowl! …and …so… THEREFORE…today holds a special POWER …and is the perfect supremely mystical… excuse, maan …that I need to go ahead…COUGH!!! …and on this solemn occasion…cough COUGH COUGH!!! ahem, and …RELEASE our first single. Woo-hoo!
(drum roll please) Smedley’s Racket is starting to release its LP, “Victory Or Deaf” one track at a time in reverse order.

Up first then is the final cut of the album, “I Wish I Never Saw This”.

The album is done. Its killer! Huge thanks to Doug Brody for his help with the artwork layout, to Tad Doyle for his mastering skills and to Richy Vegas and P. Earwig for their fantastic illustrations.

Any of you who have gone to my Bandcamp page will know that I like to keep everything as a “pay whatever you want” kind of affair. I plan on keeping it that way, but sometimes something comes up and now is one of those times. Smedley’s Racket could use some dough and some PR from YOU–that’s right, I’m askin! But that’s because there will be a limited run of Smedley’s Racket 12-inch LPs coming out this summer on a marbly vinyl!! Woot!

As you can imagine this is the result of countless hours of work as well as a few thousand bucks and while I generally don’t want to ask anything of anyone, right now we could really use any support whether with money or verbally or “sharing” to help Smedley’s Racket. Please explore and do what you can over at Maxbrodyworld on Bandcamp. Enjoy some of my weird-ass back catalog. Everything will go towards paying ourselves back for the manufacture costs. Our upcoming LP, called “Victory Or Deaf” won’t be available until this summer. In the meantime, I intend on making a bunch of video content for the Maxbrodyworld TV YouTube channel and then start releasing the music as singles and playing shows as soon as I can get it together.
